I am trying to upgrade "SysMetrix" to a newer version.... and according to what I read it is not necessary to uninstall the old version. However, when I try to install the new version I keep getting the following error in the setup:

Error opening file for writing: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\MSWINSCK.OCX"
Hit abort to abort installation, retry to retry writing the file, or ignore to skip this file.

I have no clue what to do... any suggestions?

BTW, I restored to a date before the "Service Pack 2" and got rid of the security center thingy.

I just tried it as a last resort and didn't really expect it to work and voila!! Didn't have to do a full system restoration.

Here we go...
If I remember correctly you have ZA Pro (if not let me know). Download
http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/beta (5.5.035 Pro Version) to a temp folder. Do not download anything else on that site. Click on Start/All Programs/Zone Labs/ and right click on 'Un-install Zone Labs'.Click on 'Properties' and where it has the target: "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" add a space and "/clean" (no quotes). Hit apply. Close the properties dialog and click on the un-install entry. It will do a clean un-install (you will lose all settings). Do not save your old settings...you can't use them in the new version. It will give you a prompt about a clean un-install, click OK. When it's done, you will get the re-boot prompt. Re-boot into Safe Mode. Install the downloaded file from there. You will have to input your info again as if it were new, but it will retrieve your license # after the next boot. The only setting you should make during the install process is to set Alert Adviser to Automatic. At the prompt, re-boot into Windows and you're ready to rock

..hummmmm..just read last thread about SP2. I'm glad it worked for you, but at some point in time you will have to do the ugly. Get ZA up and running and play it by ear. This version plays much better with SP2, but you may want to wait a bit longer on installing the service pack.

I couldn't find it at first.

Don't know if this is germane, but the system restore I did was for more than a month back. At any rate when I went to look for it "ZA Pro" started the fifteen day trial all over again. ( I was only a few days into it the fifteen days weren't up yet).

Since it's a trial version I thought it was the latest version.

To tell you the truth I'm not sure I'll install the SP2 at all.
Since this is the second time a windows update messes up my PC.... I'm thinkin - if it ain't broke why fix it?

P.S.
I've got a question: My ISP is Comcast and when ZA Pro is running it won't open the TV listings from my home page I have to turn it off if I want to view them. You know how I can get it to stop doing that without turning it off?

Yeah...in ZA Program Control, turn off Privacy for IE...

So I have this straight....are you running a trial or licensed version of ZA Pro? (I don't care what it was a month ago, just what is it now)

It is a "ZA Pro" trial version. Fifteen days.

I've only used it for 5 days before that I had Sygate.

OK...since you have SP2 un-installed stick with the trial version you have until you decide if you want it or not. It should do fine with your present setup.

OK.... will do.

I can see the TV listings fine now. Thanks again.
